Get to know Alpina and Rupnik line

You are welcome to take a tour of the Alpina Žiri footwear manufacturing facility where you will get to know how shoes are developed and made. After the tour you will also be able to buy some shoes at discounted prices at the Alpina manufacturer’s store. Duration: 2 h

The Alpina factory was founded in 1947 by many dedicated and hard-working individuals from the local area who also contributed a great deal to the construction of the Rupnik Line before WW2. The aim of the Rupnik Line was to protect the people against the Italian attack. It ran along the following towns: Žirovnica, Ratitovec, Blegoš, Žirovski vrh, Ljubljanski vrh, Cerknica, Črni vrh.

Its architectural features make it a colossal construction achievement consisting of 12 fortifications and around 4,000 bunkers. Accompanied by a local tourist guide you will take a tour of the underground and aboveground fortification known as “Goli vrh” where, apart from the museum, you will be able to experience the path leading through the staircase with a wire from the underground to the aboveground part of the bunker. Duration: 4 h

Once the tour of the most significant part of the Rupnik Line is completed, you will be able to indulge yourself with a traditional “shoemaker's lunch” made of local goodies in the Sklednik Restaurant. Duration: 1,5 h

Once we complete the programme, you will be able to visit the Žiri Tourist Society where you can buy souvenirs made by local artisans.
