If you wish to get to know and feel the town of Žiri, you have to follow the path of the Žiri shoemaker. We start with a tour of the Žiri Museum, i.e. the “Old School”, which as a small mansion has played an important role for Žiri throughout history. Apart from the general education school, lacemaking school and residential premises, it also enabled an uninterrupted transport route which led through the Poljane Valley at the time. You will be astonished by exceptional architecture of renovated interior and exterior as well as by the old staircase which has been preserved in its original form for centuries. In the museum you will have a tour of the permanent shoemaking collection and exhibition which present how the shoemaking industry developed in the Žiri region. You will get to know the milestones which contributed significantly to the development of the shoemaking and industry as we know it today. Duration: 1.5 h

After the tour of the museum, you will continue with the tour of the manufacturing facilities of the Alpina shoemaking factory in Žiriwhich links and combines traditional shoemaking expertise with industry. You will get familiar with the key processes of development, design and manufacture of shoes that put both Alpina and Žiri on the world map. Duration: 1 h

You will be able to indulge yourself in the Alpina Žiri manufacturer’s store where you can buy sample models of fashionable and sports footwear at discounted prices. Duration: 1 h

After shopping you will be able to replenish your energy in the Sklednik Restaurant where they will serve you a “shoemaker's lunch” made of local goodies. Duration: 1,5 h

Once we complete the programme, you will be able to visit the Žiri Tourist Society where you can buy souvenirs made by local artisans.
